ABOUT US
Improvements are needed to address the following transportation issues at the Randall Road at US 20 interchange, as well as at adjacent roadways:
The large amount of people, goods, and services moving along the Randall Road corridor has greatly increased traffic congestion and travel times.
|
The key safety issue is congestion-related crashes on Randall Road: left-turn and rear end.
|
The interchange does not have any accommodations for pedestrians or bicyclists.
|
Unless action is taken, the corridor will continue to operate under poor conditions, and crashes will increase.
To address these issues, KDOT is building upon the engagement conducted and alternatives reviewed during the Randall Road at US 20 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study by conducting a new preliminary engineering and environmental study for the interchange. This Phase I study will develop and review alternatives that will modernize the interchange, improve safety and increase mobility for all users.

PROJECT PHASES
Randall Road at US 20 interchange improvements will be implemented in multiple phases. This study is currently in Phase I. Future phases will include refining improvement designs, right-of-way acquisition (if needed), construction plan development and then actual construction.
PHASE I |
PHASE II |
PHASE III |
This study is currently in Phase I. This phase includes preliminary engineering and environmental studies for the proposed improvement. During Phase I, the study team analyzes existing and future conditions, develops and evaluates improvement alternatives and concludes with the selection of a preferred alternative.
|
This is the design and land acquisition stage. Construction plans for the preferred alternative are developed, and necessary right of way is acquired (if any).
|
If funding is secured, this phase involves constructing interchange improvements.

FUNDING
Kane County is funding this Phase I study through the County’s Fiscal Year 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP outlines the County’s five-year plan for highway improvements and their respective funding sources. Learn more about the County’s TIP here.
